Our History

Memorial Hospital of Texas County Authority History

Memorial Hospital of Texas County was initially constructed around July 1948 to provide hospital services to the community in Guymon, Oklahoma. Since the initial construction there have been several additions and renovations.

Memorial Hospital completed a four-phase expansion project in 2003. The project was financed through sales tax revenue approved by county voters in 1992 with the hospital receiving 80 percent of this tax revenue through July of 1994. The hospital currently receives a one-cent county sales tax to support operations.

The initial 26,500 square foot addition (Phase A) completed in November of 1996 included new emergency rooms, and new space for medical records, home health, radiology, education, business office, and public relations. Also included in Phase A was the construction of a third LDR(labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum) room and enlargement of the nursery to accommodate the 30% increase in hospital births.

The second phase, an inpatient wing, was completed in November 1997. This new construction provided for private rooms, greatly improved semi-private rooms, two isolation rooms and a four-bed intensive care unit with full cardiac monitoring capabilities.

The third phase of the construction project involved renovation of the remainder of the existing building. This included moving pharmacy from the basement to the main floor, renovating respiratory therapy, and laboratory. A new obstetrics wing was added that includes four LDRP rooms and doubling the size of the nursery. This phase was completed in December 1999.

The final expansion project was completed in the spring of 2003. It resulted in an increase in the number of LDRP rooms from four to eight. Additionally, renovation was done to convert administrative space into a service area for housing a new "state of the art" MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) unit. The MRI unit is a tremendous addition to our radiology services and greatly enhances the diagnostics capabilities.
